Lounging in 24th Century Starfleet Comfort
Starfleet Uniforms don't really lend themselves to lounging.
Uniforms are organizational clothing intended to both foster and present a cohesive, professional esprit de corps among the service people wearing them. Every piece of a uniform both serves a purpose and communicates some information.
Over the last few weeks one such uniform component has slipped from being simply a costume into something I wear just because it's comfy: my Starfleet Uniform Undershirt from STAR TREK: First Contact and Deep Space Nine.
STAR TREK™: THE NEXT GENERATION Collection!
Celebrating nearly 30 years as part of the Star Trek™ legacy, Star Trek™: The Next Generation® ushered in a brand new crew and ship which once again brought the utopic values created by Gene Roddenberry back into our households.
Whenever production needed to suggest that Starfleet officers were in an extreme situation, either under duress or relaxed, they would often lose the top of the uniform and depict them wearing their divisional uniform undershirt. This happened more times than one might think.
It's fun to be able to wear an accurate Starfleet uniform without having to wear the whole ensemble.
Though if I wanted to wear the whole outfit I can swap out the cuffs on my jacket for the cuffs that came with my shirt, and have a whole "new" uniform!
And as for the shirt itself, it's soft as it is made of the same Cotton/Poly tri-blended fabric that we've used for all of our uniform undershirts.
Really, I suppose I started wearing my Starfleet division shirt because it feels both comforting and comfortable.
It's an utterly appropriate uniform for the realities of "now", from our shared fictional "future."
